Michael Markowicz: Electronic Voice Phenomenon

Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Michael Markowicz and I have been studying the Electronic Voice Phenomenon (evp) since 2004. This website is dedicated to the research that I have done concerning the evp itself and nothing else. If at a point on this site, I speak of something else from another site or from a book etc, I will note it as such. I say that because I really do not study other people’s work. Sure I listen to findings by others by way of audio recordings, but they are not mine and I do not make claims for them. All of the audio files on this site I have recorded myself unless otherwise noted.

I will speak from my experience and what situations and findings mean to me. That will be speculative as far as you are concerned however personnel experiences will give you a certain understanding that cannot be gained by any other means. So this “truth” may be my own however if you have studied evp as I have then correlations could be made.

And that is one of the key points of this site. Getting you to think in the way I do about evp and to open your mind to its ability to educate. Another point is this: Are you willing to ‘live’ with spirits on a daily basis? Because that is the end result of years of studying evp. There is a lot to learn my friends!

Equipment
There are some people, groups, TV shows and organizations that advocate the use of cheap recording devices. Why? Is it because they think that the spirits use the internal workings of the electronics to form their words? White noise? I don’t believe that at all. In fact I use very good recording gear that is whisper quiet and have captured, dare I use the term, class A recordings. Many, many class A recordings. How are you going to hear finely detailed whispers if your ear is competing with input static noise? Removing the noise will probably remove the whispers because they can share the same frequencies. So you are stuck. I have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the best recording equipment reveals the best sounding evps. So then, why use substandard recording devices? Garbage in, garbage out.
My first recorder was a Radio Shack DR-85 digital voice recorder. It was a noisy little device but it did pick up a lot of great evps. (I don’t think they make this model any longer.) My next recorder was a big step up. It was a Sony IC Recorder ICD –ST 25 Stereo. It was quieter and had a lot more storage space. I used this one for years before I purchased a mini recording studio to take with me on investigations. That consists of Studio Projects B3 Condenser Microphones.

I have enough of these microphones to cover a home sufficiently. And they sound great! Nice and quiet and when you have the pre amps pushed up, you really can hear a pin drop from accross the room!

This is the Sony PCM-D50.

This digital recorder is capable of recording up to 96 kHz / 24 bit sampling rate! That is way more than I need for voice recordings but the sound quality and quiet nature of this device is what I require. Always get the best recording equipment you can afford. You will learn to appreciate the quality and the clean realistic results they give.
I also have a Behringer Xenyx 2442 mixing board and a Dell Inspiron laptop computer. I still use antiquated editing software for capturing the recording sessions and for all of the post work.

Classification of evp

Nope. Don’t believe in it. I have heard time and time again from people who feel the need to classify their evps and other peoples too. It makes me crazy! You either hear it or you don’t folks. That’s it. Why do people have to classify if it’s an A, B or C? What different does it make? There is too much time wasted on such nonsense. I have been criticized at length on my recordings for being class this and class that and “I would NEVER play a class C recording for clients.” Why?! Anyone who dismisses any audio evidence because it’s not clear to them, has no idea what they are missing. Do you know that a vast majority of evps are recorded in whisper form and low volume speech? If you don’t listen for them then you are missing out of a fantastic opportunity! Over 90% of my recordings are this way and I have well over 4,000 clips!  However, equipment is partially to blame for people skipping the hard to hear voices and it is because recorders can contribute so much noise. Like my first recorder did.
